A fascinating renewal. Magna Grecia bids to confirm 2000 Guineas form with Skardu. Despite the unsatisfactory way three groups formed in an English classic, personal opinion is Magna Grecia would have won wherever he was drawn. A good-looking colt with size Magna Grecia looks a typical hardy Ballydoyle classic three-year-old. I expect him to confirm the 2000 Guineas form. It can be argued that Phoenix Of Spain is the value as a head separated them at Doncaster last year. However, it will be a surprise if MG cannot confirm the form on grounds of fitness and proven improvement. Too Darn Hot makes a quick reappearance following his run in the Dante. I would not dream of questioning Mr Gosden’s decision to come here.  We can see TDH, at his juvenile best,  has every chance of success. This is due to his highest FSF, which sees him top, was recorded last year. However, this is a tough call following a nine-day break and playing away at the MG’s home course. I take Magna Grecia and suggest Decrypt will outrun his odds.

Ten Sovereigns tops FSFs from Advertise who is just clear of Magna Grecia. Timeform have Ten Sovereigns top with Magna Grecia just clear of Advertise. Dispatches from Ballydoyle have been as loud as prayers in the Vatican. I was hugely impressed with Ten Sovereigns last year. He travels well, has a good turn of foot with a temperament you like to see at the highest level. The question posed through the winter is will he stay? His sire No Nay Never stayed six and a half-furlongs while his dam recorded her highest FSFs over ten and eleven-furlongs. In fact, she ran all her races over a mile or further. Ten Sovereigns, in the space of five weeks, went from a maiden win to Group One success in the Middle Park. One can only admire his constitution. Ten Sovereigns appears amenable to restraint before delivering a telling turn of foot a furlong from home. If he has inherited stamina from his dam, it will make him hard to pass. Stablechum Magna Grecia is a solid performer, A Group One winner his only defeat came at the hands of Persian King, a colt likely to prove a top performer in France this season. He has proven stamina allied to Group One form making him a threat to all. Madhmoon’s return to the track was underwhelming. However, connections blamed what was soft, holding, ground. A Group Two winner he will stay and enjoy ground underhoof. Advertise ran well when runner-up to the absent Too Darn Hot in the Dewhurst. His breeding raises doubts over the ability to see the trip out. Timeform have Skardu on 112, 15lb below Ten Sovereigns. A likeable and improving colt I believe he will improve and confirm Craven form. Whether he can make another step up the classic ladder is something we will find out in the fullness of time. Having lost several arrows from their Guineas quiver, Godolphin relies on Al Hilalee who has stepped up in his work recently. He spent the winter in Dubai though it does appear something of an afterthought. As is often the case with Ballydoyle runners, the late market may tell the tale. I hope to see Group One form upheld by Ten Sovereigns with Magna Grecia and Madhmoon suggested as the next best.
