BETFAIR HURDLE ANALYSIS

BETFAIR HURDLE ANALYSIS

A ridiculous start to the race with the horse lining up for a standing start. This must be one of the most stupid ideas the BHA have come up with. Horses are not machines. Once revved up to go, runners are unlikely to prove amenable for a restart. Never Adapt was pulled up injured after the first flight while at the final hurdle Lightly Squeeze fell when still in with a shout. He, in turn, brought down Mack The Man and Harambe, who were finishing the race strongly. Several others were hampered to varying degrees. Going forward, we should treat the form with a degree of caution.

Pic D’Orhy (FR) 33/1 Raced in mid-division before making headway three hurdles from home. Avoided all the last flight trouble and hard ridden stayed on to last the spoils. All out at the finish, he had a harder race than many.

Ciel De Neige (FR) 13/2F Having raced just off the pace he challenged two hurdles from home. Left in the lead at the last he wandered onto the stands side on the run-in but kept on in a tight finish. An inexperienced horse in the thick of things from an early stage, he should in my opinion, have been ridden with a degree of patience up the home straight.

Remiluc (FR) 66/1 Consistent handicapper that ran 5lb below the form figure achieved when second in the 2019 County Hurdle. Ran on from two out; having avoided the carnage at the last flight, he kept on at one pace on the run-in. Good record at Cheltenham 2, 1, 2, UP.

Sir Valentine (GER) 16/1 Raced in midfield before making headway under pressure from thee out. Slightly hampered at the last, he stayed on well.

Tamaroc Du Mathan (FR) 50/1 Ridden with restraint he made headway up the home straight and finished well. Both sides of his breeding suggest he will enjoy a step-up in trip.

Zanza (IRE) 25/1 Held up towards the rear of midfield, he made headway from three out and kept on without making an impact on the closing stages. Worth another try over further. (Vet said gelding lost its right hind shoe)

Oakley (IRE) 20/1 Raced in midfield before being outpaced up the home straight. Rallied and ran on late on ground faster than he cares for.

Stolen Silver (FR) 16/1 Slowly away and raced towards the rear of the field. Came under pressure two from home and finished strongly. He will stay two and a half-miles when needed.

Nelson River 50/1 Tracked leaders, before being ridden in the home straight. Kept on at one pace but not without promise.

Quoi De Neuf (FR) 14/1 Raced in mid-division, outpaced in the home straight before staying on in the closing stages.

Ecco 16/1 Raced in midfield. Making no significant headway when slightly hampered at the last hurdle.

Gumball (FR) 33/1 Slowly away and raced in mid-division. No progress from three out. (Vet said gelding lost its left hind shoe)

Flegmatik (FR) 33/1 Raced in midfield and making some late progress when hampered at the last hurdle.

Neff (GER) 33/1 Some late progress when hampered at the last hurdle.

Not So Sleepy 9/1 Slightly hampered at the start he made a mistake at the first flight. Raced kindly in midfield but made no real headway from second last. Worth noting his jockey was one of those looking at the starter as he dropped the starting flag. Given the negative vibes in the run-up to the race, we should perhaps, ignore this run.  (Vet said gelding lost its left fore shoe)

Whoshotthesheriff (IRE) 16/1 Mid-division and no progress in closing stages.

Thebannerkingrebel (IRE) 7/1 Ran well until weakening between the last two hurdles.

Highly Prized 9/1 Places chances at best when hampered at the last hurdle.

Magic Dancer 50/1 In rear when hampered at the last hurdle.

Harambe 25/1 Held up, he made steady progress in straight. Beginning to get competitive when brought down at the last. Has a choice of Coral Cup and County Hurdle, though never ideal going to Cheltenham after this sort of incident.

Mack The Man (IRE) 15/2 Reared at the start and held-up in rear. Made headway from the fourth last and still in with a shout when brought down at the last.

Lightly Squeeze 33/1 Tracked the leaders before making headway to lead two flights from home. Leading at the last, he fell causing havoc behind him. Still in with a chance, he would have been hard to keep out the fun in the closing stages.

Mill Green 25/1 Pulled up and never going.

Never Adapt (FR) 8/1 Lost her action and pulled up after the first hurdle. (Vet reported she was lame on her left hind)
